17 Months

Booger-face.
Squirrely boy. Squirrely Butt.
Baby Boy.
MY SON (daddy's favorite)
Phee-Phee...

We are still completely tripped out by you and your life-force. And you ARE a force to be reckoned with. You have so many new things. One is that you get totally hyper before bedtime. You run back and forth in the living room, screaming and laughing, throwing yourself on the floor and sofa, stalling bedtime.

You've been sleeping like a CHAMP. In fact, you've slept through the night three times this month. I'm really proud of you, and I'm glad that we were able to be patient with you and let you do what you needed (nurse through the night) because it was worth it, even though I'm still tired :)

Eating is becoming really interesting with and for you. You're much more open to trying new things, and you're actually swallowing food. This makes diapering much more of a sport for us, but I'm glad that you're getting into food, because there's so much fun we can have with cooking and baking and enjoying cuisine!!!

You're still way into music and dancing. Your moves evolve weekly it seems. We tear it UP in the car. I feel like every song is "our song" :) We groove to lots of TOP 40, and it makes the car super fun, me belting out the lyrics and you bopping your head or waving your hands in the air. Fun with you is the best kind of fun to have!

Bringing you to auditions has been a challenge, as you're not interested in staying in one area or being quiet, which is pretty key to the situation. So I think I'm gonna try to get some childcare help in the future. I wanna prolong the iPad for as long as possible, but that seems to be the only thing keeping other kids quiet at auditions. We will be utilizing the iPad for our next plane trip though, for sure!!!

It feels like they've been working at it for months, but your molars are still trying to come in. They're taking their honey-sweet time, and just one has barely poked through. You're handling it very well, but there are definitely times when I can tell you're in pain. It sucks. The homeopathics seem to give you some relief.

We went to Palm Springs for your Dad's birthday yesterday. The Parker was beautiful, and we had the most fun swimming in the pool! After a couple months of swimming lessons you definitely think you can swim, which is hilarious! We had some yummy food at the hotel and in downtown Palm Springs. One of my favorite moments was pulling into the desert and stopping at Blue Coyote for lunch. Your Dad and I would go there every time we went to Palm Springs to celebrate a birthday or anniversary. We always get a cadillac margarita; your Dad gets chicken fajitas, and we have a favorite server. Anyway, Palm Springs represents our fancy, care-free, luxurious escape from LA and from responsibility. So it was a total trip to look at you--YOU our sweet wildling baby boyBot--sitting in between us, eating chips at Blue Coyote. Our world has completely changed and you are our new world. So it was wild to have you in our old world :)

Today I returned from a glorious, sun and fun-filled weekend in Palm Springs. We celebrated Auntie Aimee's 30th birthday, and it was fabulous! Your Ma go to let loose and boy, did she need it! I missed you madly, but was so confident in you and your Daddy's ability to take care of each other that I didn't worry one bit.

This morning you heard music in the chopping of almonds for oatmeal. You also danced to the rythym of the chain saw in your Dad's "how to build a log cabin" video. You are still our little tiny dancer.

We babysat sweet baby Frankie today. You were a little jealous when I held her, but you decided to go with the flow and played like a big boy while I gave her her bottle. I was proud of you. You were just as jealous, actually more jealous, when we meant to meet baby Juliana! Oh man, you cried when I held her, and I had to give her back to Ellen. It was so nice to meet her though, and you did much better on our second visit to see her. You played basketball in her adorable room, and although you were afraid of Brady, we had a great visit with Auntie Daniela.

We had such a nice day today. That's what I say to you every night to let you know it's the beginning of our bedtime routine. We did indeed have a really nice day though. We visited the cardiologist and got a positive report on your heart. So grateful for your health, sweet one. You opted out of nap time like it was an annoying email list, and we went to the meadow! You had a blast there, wandering around the grass, playing with your buddies, stealing balls and enjoying the sunshine. Daddy's gone to Michigan for a wedding, so it's just us for a few days. You never cease to amaze me when he's away--you take your "man of the house" responsibilities very seriously, and I appreciate that ;)

You got to hang out with Auntie AFC today while I was at Ruby's baby shower. You guys had a great time, and she really enjoys hanging with you. The feeling is mutual, and you cried when she left. I'm grateful that you guys had a good experience while I had some grown folks time.

Camping for your Dad's bday was awesome and exhausting. You had a blast, exploring the campgrounds, playing with Bandit, splashing in the pool and enjoying nature. We, however, were pretty busy trying to keep you from splitting your head open on the picnic table or tree stump, etc. It was a nice, intimate little group and it was lovely spending some quality time with the Boyds and JuaKim. We laughed (and complained about) the rowdy teens who were partying, then joined in their dance party when they played Snoop Dogg. It was good to get away, to find out what it's like to camp with a wildling. And your Dad and I decided we're gonna let you grow up a little more before we send you out into the woods again ;) For your safety and for our peace of mind.

Today you and Daddy came with me to an audition for a film. I booked the role! I'm really excited to work as an actor again, because it's been a long while and I've been busy momming! The project is about mamas who have lost their babies, and as I'm now in the birth world, this subject matter is nearer to my heart. I'm grateful to be able to stretch this muscle again, and it's good for your mama to express this creative side.

Today we all went to Underwood Family Farms as part of your Toddler camp. This was a really neat day. We got to pick strawberries and eat them right there in the field!!! You were definitely interested in eating more than picking. Your Dad was so excited to be on the farm, and he would love for us all to live on a farm someday. After strawberry picking we ate lunch and walked around, looking at the animals. You were mostly interested in the tractor, less so the animals. It was a great day, and you helped me make Roasted Strawberry Sherbet when we got home! Yummy.
